Chad Goodman founded Elevate Ensemble to offer audiences a unique way of experiencing the Bay Area’s vibrant music scene. Graduate studies initially brought Chad to San Francisco, but he quickly fell in love with the local musical community and resolved to make the Bay Area his home.

Outside of Elevate, Chad serves as Music Director of the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra. In the 2018-19 season, he will serve as an Assistant Conductor to the San Francisco Symphony, assisting Manfred Honeck, Francois-Xavier Roth, Daniel Harding, Pablo Heras-Casado, Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla and James Gaffigan. He has also held conducting positions with the Peninsula Symphony, the Atlantic Music Festival, and Mercury Soul.

Aaron Gervais joined Elevate Ensemble shortly after its inception, seeing in the organization the opportunity to build a new type of ensemble, based on strong guiding principles, effective teamwork, and a passion for uncompromising artistic excellence.

A freelance composer, Aaron came to the Bay Area in 2009 following graduate studies in composition at UC San Diego and the Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Hague. He is in demand as a composer across North America and Europe and also maintains a popular blog on the economics of new music.

Composer-in-residence Julie Herndon

For the 2018/19 season, Julie Herndon is Elevate’s composer-in-residence. A doctoral candidate at Stanford University, her work blends internal/external spaces through song, electronics, text, graphics, and improvisation. Recent compositions have been performed by ensembles including JACK Quartet, Ensemble Proton Bern, Line Upon Line Percussion, Retro Disco, and Left Coast Chamber Ensemble.
